Topaz and Citrine; November's birthstones
Topaz and Citrine are the two birthstones of November.
Topaz was associated with the color yellow for centuries. The ancient Greeks believed Topaz gave them strength. Today, we know that Topaz occurs in a broad range of colors with various tones and satuations of red, pink, purple, yellow, orange and brown, as well as blue and green. Colorless topaz are common and usually heated or irradiated. As a result of that, we are able to achieve different beautiful shades of blue; Sky blue, Swiss blue, London blue. Although Blue Topaz are in abundance, not all will have excellent clarity or symmetrical cut. In general, darker blue hues cost slightly more. Red and pink Topaz varieties are rare and highly cherished. One of the most valuable of these is known as Imperial Topaz, with medium reddish orange to orange-red hue. Topaz is a great gemstone to boost faith, calm one's fear and dissolve negative thoughts.
Citrine, the other birthstone of November, is a transparent yellow to brownish orange variety of Quartz. It was believed that Citrine could soothe temper and calm the wearer. Since natural Citrines are rare, most Citrines you see are the result of heat treatment. The most popular shade is an earthy hue- a deep brownish or reddish orange.
Citrine has the ability to absorb negative energy from a person or the atmosphere. This gemstone promotes new beginnings, the pursuit of dreams, free-thinking, happiness, joy, wisdom and intelligence. *All gemstones we use are natural. Treatment does not indicate poor quality or synthetic stones. In fact, to achieve certain colors or to remove undesirable colors (eg. brown tints) in gemstones, treatment has to be done. One example would be Tanzanite. Did you know, almost all rough Tanzanites are actually a brown zoisite variety.
